Shay Ascarie, MA, LMHCA
Shay Ascarie is a licensed mental health therapist. She earned her Masters in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University-Seattle. She has experience working with adults, children, and teens with depression, anxiety, ADHD, body image conflicts, trauma, sexual and physical abuse, adjustments/transitions, sexuality, gender, and family conflict. Shay has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including substance abuse treatment for youth, child and family therapy in community mental health, counseling in an elementary school setting, and private practice.
Shay works from a humanistic framework, which simply translates into valuing each of her clients with a non-judgmental mindset. Shay always attempts to be authentic and honest so that the therapeutic process has transparency for her clients. Shay believes that every client’s experience is different, and Shay will work with you taking into account your life, history, current circumstances, life dreams, and wishes, to help you find a life plan to get you where you want to be mentally and emotionally. Shay believes in the mind-body connection and has interest and experience in nutrition, meditation, and tapping and often implements these in her therapy with clients.
Shay is a person-centered therapist who utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic theory, Narrative Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy and Play Therapy for children. Although Shay is experienced with several therapeutic approaches, she tries to enlist her client’s strengths in order to begin the healing process, believing that her clients are the true experts in their lives and can make any changes that they want.
