Jacob Durtschi, LICSW

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

I am a clinician at our Federal Way clinic who provides therapy services!

Although I have treated a wide variety of clients in my 20 years of experience in psychotherapy, I am more passionate about helping folks who really want the help and are internally motivated. This spans all age groups, genders, and ethnicities. I particularly enjoy working with clients who are at a life crossroads or a life transition, and help them work through their ambivalence and confusion to finding sustainable solutions, and also help them learn to deal more effectively with uncertainty.

I have always maintained a generalist practice, so have developed a number of specialty areas of focus. This include, but are not limited to cultural concerns (I am fluent in Spanish), LGBTQ+ concerns, complex trauma (EMDR trained), and mindfulness training, as well as work with Internal Family Systems. I have worked with folks who are experiencing religious and spiritual transitions.

I have been described by clientele as having an ability to build rapport easily and make clients feel comfortable and at-ease. I am comfortable disclosing some of the challenges I experienced growing up gay in a Mormon culture if that can be helpful to the progress of my clients. I believe therapy, although sometimes a temporary help through a difficult transition, can also be an ongoing self-care measure, and can also be fun. My clients frequently have told me they feel lighter after therapy sessions with me, with less internal preoccupation with their presenting problems. With that said, I am ready to dig-in and help clients address their deepest concerns, building a working relationship of trust and openness.
