Lorena Salazar, DNP, ARNP, PMHNP-C

Size Medium Wp Image 1637 AlignrightPsychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Lorena Salazar (she/her) is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) at our Redmond Medical Center clinic who provides  psychiatry services in-person and via telehealth. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Gonzaga University. In her program, she obtained clinical experience in outpatient child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric care. Her certifications include Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Professional Health and Wellness Coach, and Washington State Autism ‘Center of Excellence’ (COE) for the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Before earning her doctorate, she worked as a Nurse Care Manager, providing evidence-based, holistic preventative care, education, and coordination of care to help clients manage psychiatric and medical conditions in the community. She has over 20 years of nursing experience in inpatient acute care settings, community nursing, long-term care, and working with individuals with chronic medical conditions and developmental disabilities.

Lorena’s focus is on the treatment of Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, OCD, Personality Disorders, and LGBTQIA+ related issues.  She provides psychiatric assessment, medication management, and brief psychotherapeutic intervention for clients 12 and older. She practices from a holistic, person-centered, and trauma-informed perspective. As such, she believes in creating an individualized plan of care that values client involvement, interprofessional collaboration, and evidence-based practice. Although she does not see clients exclusively for psychotherapy, she has the pleasure of working alongside many skilled and experienced therapists to collaborate and coordinate your care with them when appropriate. As your provider, she will work closely with you, your family and other healthcare providers to ensure that you have the care you need through your healing journey.

In her work, Lorena explores factors that may predispose clients to mental health concerns such as genetics, life traumas, early life experiences, relationships, cultural background, and current coping methods. She hopes for clients to feel empowered, to understand their mental health concerns, and to provide motivational counseling in a culturally competent, stigma-free environment. Your initial visit will include a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, an exploration of treatment goals, and education about possible diagnoses. Laboratory testing and an EKG may be ordered to rule out other medical conditions. Together, you will identify a tailored treatment approach to meet your needs. You can expect to be treated with respect, authenticity, empathy, and compassion at every session. Lorena looks forward to working with you on your healing journey.

When not at work, Lorena enjoys cooking, traveling, trying new foods, and exploring the outdoors.
