Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
A client who is struggling with mental health issues such as but not limited to depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, or other mood disorders would come to me for medication treatment and supportive psychotherapy. They would be seeking medication therapy in addition to pursuing holistic health maintenance including adequate nutrition and exercise, and ideally would also participate in non-medication psychotherapy. Their needs include a provider who can listen, empathize, and educate while being nonjudgmental, validating, and transparent. Their goals include improving their mental health and as a byproduct their overall functioning in all aspects of their life such as educational, occupational, and interpersonal relationships. They want to be the best version of themselves and manage their symptoms effectively so that they can maximize their quality of life.
I can help educate patients on medication treatment options and offer them a treatment plan that will best suit their needs to manage their most distressing symptoms while minimizing unwanted side effects. I am proficient in medication management across the lifespan including both pediatrics and adults, and am comfortable treating a wide range of disorders including but not limited to depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and the bipolar-schizophrenia spectrum. I provide a safe space for individuals of all backgrounds and cultures to seek treatment, and I am also sensitive to the needs of the LGBTQA+ community. I also have experience working in addiction medicine.
I consider myself a medication minimalist and thus prioritize utilizing the least amount of medications at the lowest doses possible to effectively manage psychiatric symptoms. I also believe in holistic treatment, supporting both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies for mental health maintenance. My goal is not to change the personality of my clients nor take away their ability to feel and express their emotions, but rather to decrease or eliminate their most distressing symptoms and help them to be the best version of themselves. I strive to identify and support the specific goals of my patients and encourage their individuality and personal success. I consider my client’s input as invaluable and take their needs and opinions into account when deciding on a treatment plan.
