Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
Clients with a history of addiction or have been affected by addiction are my ideal client because it is a prevalent issue and it is an area that I know I can make a difference. I also enjoy working with clients who struggle with relationships, codependency, self-esteem, and mental health issues including depression, bipolar, and anxiety. Clients who are committed to the process would be great, but I know having worked in the mental health field for a while that the level of commitment can ebb and flow. I like working with clients who are willing to make changes, big or small at their own pace.
I have almost 10 years of experience working as a counselor in the field of addiction with a Masters level education focused on addiction and co-occuring disorders. I have worked with a variety of populations including men, women, Native Americans, LGBTQ+, and adolescents. I specialize in codependency, as well as chemical dependency while working with individuals, couples, and families. The modalities I prefer are CBT, Solution Focused, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and 12 Step facilitation. I like to recommend books, reading materials, and worksheets if they are something that seem to fit the needs of the client.
Being a therapist is one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life. During my career there have been many laughs, some heartbreak, and many moments of clarity, all of which have made me a better therapist. These experiences with clients and their families have a special place in my heart. My goal is to meet a client where they are at in the process and determine what methods would be effective to meeting their goals. Honesty is an important component to building a level of trust, which is needed when doing the work. I enjoy the process of helping my clients grow and change while offering support, tools, and a safe space as a therapist.
