MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR ASSOCIATE
[ ANDERSON PARK | accepting new clients ]
My name is Jon and I’m a licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate. I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Creative Writing at Metropolitan State University of Denver and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. I am passionate about working with clients (6+) who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and grief and loss. I am currently working towards independent licensure under the supervision of Gordon Zhang, LMFT.
I am a narrative and mindfulness focused therapist with a variety of other approaches to gently and boldly help clients. Narrative therapy means enacting the creative process of sharing one’s story through play, art, verbal processing, or stillness and breathing. Whatever the story is, when you share, we learn more of who you are, how your mind “plays,” and how you can live anew.
In engaging your story, I am able to help guide you through how to befriend yourself and work with your emotions, how to process through uncomfortable bodily experiences, and ways to live life more fully with hope. My goal is to help you be present where you are, learn new coping skills, and bring new perspectives to how you see yourself and your situation.
I approach clients in a multiculturally and socially informed manner, considering the person and the community the person is a part of and lives in. On a personal note, I am a published researcher on both sociomoral disgust and connectivity and their neurological, emotional, and interpersonal effects on individuals.
