Dr. DeMella earned her PsyD in clinical psychology at Antioch University Seattle. She provides psychotherapy and assessment services to individuals under the supervision of Dr. Bonner Dobbs, a licensed clinical psychologist.
In her therapeutic practice, she works with children, adolescents, and adults, on a variety of concerns, including emotional regulation and anger, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress-related difficulties (and accompanying physical symptoms), low self-esteem, life transitions, grief and loss, relational difficulties, identity, and belonging. She has experience working with LGBTQA+ adolescents and young adults. Embracing an integrative approach, guided by relational psychodynamic, attachment, and cognitive behavioral theories, Dr. DeMella works with clients to uncover patterns and habits that no longer work which can perpetuate distress. She works with clients to discover their own preferences and understand their values, focusing on the ways that the clients can reconnect with the belief that we all have intrinsic value and place in humanity. Dr. DeMella’s therapeutic approach entails building a foundational relationship grounded in genuine connection that facilitates the patient finding their best sense of self.
Dr. DeMella is trained in therapeutic assessment for developmental neuropsychological and psychoeducational concerns. Her research focuses on anger and dissertation analyzed women in the first year of motherhood experiencing, anger, grief, and loss. Her publications to date investigate the differentiation between anger and irritability and women and anger.
She helps patients identify and explore the influence of societal messaging on their self-regard and individual identity, whether it be age, race, sexual orientation, gender, or other identity. Dr. DeMella completed her pre-doctoral internship working in primary care behavioral health, working in an urban underserved community. In this position, which brought into sharp relief how socio-economic factors play a significant role in individual health, she gained invaluable experience in navigating complicated mental health care. This has informed her integrated therapeutic approach, which explores the mind-body connection in order to promote holistic healing. Dr. DeMella collaborates to create a validating environment. With a foundation of trust and empowerment, clients use their own strengths to make meaningful change. Wherever individuals find themselves, Dr. DeMella works with respect and humor alongside clients to discover alternative paths, to live more authentically, and to re-connect with self and loved ones.
