Kathleen Worsley, PhD at LightHeart Psychological Associates

Kathleen Worsley, PhD

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr. Kathleen Worsley earned a BA in History and an MA in Library Science at California State University, San Jose. After ten years of public library service, she entered a graduate program and earned a PhD in Professional Psychology at United States International University, now Alliant International University in San Diego. The University provided opportunities for study with Viktor Frankl, Max Lerner, Jay Haley and others in its Humanistic-Existential doctoral psychology program.

A predoctoral internship at the Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego included biofeedback training with open heart surgery patients, and adult therapy at a San Diego women’s neighborhood clinic. Postdoctoral internship at the Community Psychological Center, Central Washington University, Ellensburg, encompassed performing psychological evaluations and other consultative services to schools, group homes, Head Start, and individual therapy to adults in the community.

For over thirty years Dr. Worsley has practiced psychology in clinical settings in Redmond and, earlier, in Eastern Washington. Her work has encompassed psychotherapy, psychological testing and evaluations, consultation to Native American tribal schools, testifying as an expert in court and actively participating in professional associations. She trained program leaders for Washington State’s convention to elect representatives to the White House Conference on Women. Other community work included spearheading the formation of domestic violence services and housing in Ellensburg, WA.

At present Dr. Worsley is in clinical practice with adult individuals and seniors as clients. Her approach with clients is to listen to concerns thoughtfully and together with them to plan treatment to meet their goals. Coping with ageing and the many other stresses and changes throughout adult life from illness of a partner, loss and grief, career changes, moves, to moods and anxiousness are concerns of the people she works with in therapy.
Making changes in behavior, thinking, and feeling through therapy allows people to achieve clarity, and to develop a grounded competence so they may face life a little more comfortably. Depending on client’s needs and concerns Dr. Worsley uses cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, existential, and psychodynamic therapies along with techniques such as relaxation, communication skills, meditation, and EMDR.
