Puja Kakkar, PhD, PsyD

Dr. Puja Kakkar, Ph.D, PsyD is a postdoctoral psychology fellow. She completed two doctoral degrees in Psychology. She completed her first degree in 2004 from India and graduated in 2017 with her second degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Seattle. She is multilingual and speaks three languages: Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
She had been extensively working with adults, children, adolescents and families since she began her training in 1998. Her training experiences involved working with adults in community mental health settings and primary health care clinics where she has conducted brief assessments and therapy with adult clients struggling with a range of clinical problems: PTSD, diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic pain, insomnia and addiction. She also has extensive experience in providing therapy to elementary, middle and high school students for a variety of issues: academic stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, self esteem, ADHD and behavioral challenges. She also enjoys working with parents by educating and teaching them skills needed to foster healthy relationships with their kids and provides ADHD coaching for parents as well.
She provides culturally sensitive therapy and has extensive experience working with diverse populations including Indians, Latinos, immigrants and refugees. She recognizes and respect differences and can communicate and interact successfully with clients from diverse backgrounds Her interventions include Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and biofeedback. She believes that developing a warm therapeutic relationship is crucial and focuses on expanding existing strengths as clients are more willing to make changes when they feel genuinely understood and supported.
Apart from therapy, she also enjoys teaching and has been serving as an Adjunct faculty and teaching Communication & Counseling Skills course to masters level students at Antioch University.
